About Mask och Commedia Centrum

Mask and Commedia Centrum is a non-profit association founded in 1985 whose aims are:

  • to spread knowledge about masks, puppetry, clown, street theatre and Commedia and their use in different cultures and eras.
  • to investigate and experiment in puppet and mask making, the use of masks and puppets as a means of artistic expression and Commedia, clown and street theatre as a form of theatre.
  • to develop cooperation with national and international groups and organizations.
  • to act as a forum for developing and creating new forms of work with masks, puppets, clowns, Commedia and street theatre with the aim of partly running the professional theater group Commediagillet under its own auspices, and partly being a gathering place for independent groups, both amateurs as professionals.

All this takes place by organizing courses, workshops, seminars, lectures and exhibitions about masks, puppets, clowns, street theatre and Commedia, as well as by publishing publications on these subjects. The Mask and Commedia Centrum association works based on democratic principles, supports democracy as a social system, works for equality, diversity, the equal value and equal treatment of all people in the business, and distances itself from violent expressions and opinions.
